tour de france cycling teams

Lance Armstrong may attend Tour de France after all … is that what should be done?
No heavy in cycling, but once a year the Tour France does get my attention. I just read an article stating that b / c of the success of the Discovery Channel, Lance Armstrong is considering make an appearance in the race. Armstrong, as part of the owners of the team and one of the best cyclists ever, has every right to be there and cheer their team on. I wonder if it would be better if he just let the current team riders DC take the spotlight this time. If he was there from the start of the race until the end, helping the team as he could, that would be one thing, but the way the article was written, it sounds like is just to go there b / c your team is doing surprisingly well. I do not want to damage the man, who has dealt with more shit than most people ever, just hope he knows when is the time to become a successful "behind the scenes' player (now Jordan and Gretzky in their sports).
I think your point is very valid. He probably would be a distraction. Always a media frenzy in France. They did in the Discovery team like the plague. With doping, once more front and center, it is unlikely he would have the opportunity to be just an ambassador for the sport. He also had a nasty fight with the director of the race, so it would probably be better served to send his best wishes for satellite and leave well enough alone. Over time, who knows.
